Kanchana Movie Review

Written By moveeland on Friday, 15 July 2011 | 3:11 pm

Banner: Sri Sai Ganesh Productions Pvt., Ltd.
Cast: Lawrence, Lakshmi Rai, Sarathkumar, Kovai Sarala
Music: Thaman S
Producer: Bellamkonda Suresh
Direcor: Lawrence Raghavendra
INTRO:
Muni is back again, as Kanchana of course for the Telugu audiences… promising to undrape the darker sides in you, make you have the spine-chilling experience of co-existing with ghosts, petrify you to death and what not. The horror apart, Raghava Lawrence this time assured of embellishing the horror flick with comedy and family drama so as to cater to various sections of people. The promos, however, got our notice more for the brand new appearance of Lawrence as eunuch ghost. Let me check if or not Kanchana repeats Muni
PERFORMANCES:
Lawrence’s is a character that goes in the same, old style as that in the prequel. In fact, he continues his role in Muni. He is afraid of ghosts and scared to step out of house after 6 pm fearing the same. He still relies on his mother when he’s terrified. However, he plays four different roles here – a normal guy frightened of ghouls, Kanchana (eunuch ghost), Hindi-speaking person and a kid. He’s is satisfying as an ordinary person and just tolerable as Hindi-speaking guy and kid. However, he is too good to watch when he embodies Kanchana, a hijra spirit. Thanks to the astounding makeover, Lawrence simply sparkles in the character through his ferocious expressions and appalling shades of a ghost.
Lakshmi Rai has really a very little scope to perform. She is more like confined to songs, dances and glamour show. Had she been given more space, it would have been good to see more of her acting skills. Kovai Sarala, Deiva Darshini and others in the family are truly funny in parts but they go over-the-top at several other instances. The real surprise comes in the form of Sarath Kumar who is mind-blowing as the real Kanchana. Having met with untimely death, Kanchana (the eunuch) returns with vengeance and takes over the body of Lawrence in order to reach to his/her murderers. A proven actor he is, Sarath Kumar stood up to the challenge of essaying a hijra ghost and drew huge applause.
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS:
The sound effects are among the loudest in the recent times. Thaman’s music is not much appealing enough and has lot of Tamil flavor, which wouldn’t go down well with the Telugu viewers. The background score is good though. The scenes of the ghost appearing randomly in the house are shot well. Choreography is alright, although the first song has some good moves by a few physically challenged dancers. Action scenes too are well-choreographed.
The film’s too long and gets boring at times, thus necessitate crisp editing. Moreover, the runtime is quite a lot for a film of this genre. Screenplay is good in second-half. The film is too loud, however, there’s enough content to chew upon in act-two, once the flashback gets revealed. Lawrence might not have anything new to offer to the audience, so he ends up torturing the poor souls with senseless comedy and exaggerated antics. However, his act as Kanchana is a revelation. Worth mentioning is that he fails to strike a balance between his roles as a director and an actor while handling Kanchana. Good on few occasions, but fails to narrate a normal story and ends up resorting to cheap thrills to scare the audience.
PLUS-POINTS:
Sarath Kumar & Lawrence’s performance as Kanchana
 Choreography in the first song
 Scenes with the ghost
 Climax song
MINUS-POINTS:
Overdose of Tamil flavor
Sound effects
Story
Direction
Comedy especially by Kovai Sarala & Lawrence
Laxmi Rai’s role & love track
ANALYSIS:
The comedy is terrible, mostly with Lawrence, Kovai Sarala and Deiva Darshini who keep fooling around all the time throughout the movie. The story doesn’t offer anything innovative since it’s similar to that of Muni; nonetheless there are quite a few thrills to quote. Lawrence should have worked more on the script rather so as to make it appealing and fresh to the audiences. The first-half is terrible to keep an eye on, especially the family drama, the comedy and the romance. The tempo picks up only in the post-interval episode with the introduction of Kanchana’s character (Sarath Kumar). There’s too much blood and gore at times. Dialogues are bad, particularly in act-one. But then, the second-half highlights a good issue about the taboos related to eunuchs. Further, there’s way too much of Tamil flavor in the film and sometimes it becomes unbearable.
VERDICT:
The movie tests your patience levels for sure. The repeated storyline offering nothing new and different is tiresome. The flashback about Kanchana, which of course has Sarath Kumar, is the only element that gives you an edge-of-the-seat feel. He is remarkable as a eunuch ghoul. The rest is a headache, though the climax is watchable enough. The runtime plays a spoilsport, especially for a horror film like this. The plot, on the other hand, has no grip and lacks in intensity. Lawrence claimed that he tried to rectify the mistakes he did in Muni. He did by roping in Sarath Kumar, but failed in all other aspects since his attempts to bring sentiment, comedy and other elements to the story turned futile. He fell short in juggling the roles of an actor and director in this case, which demands more from his side. If you are not used to Lawrence’s films, you would definitely find it annoying. However, a handful of elements would please the masses and they would certainly embrace the flick as was in the earlier case.
MY WORD:
Avoid it at all costs but only if you love horror and Sarath Kumar!

Ravi Teja’s Veera Movie Review

Written By moveeland on Saturday, 21 May 2011 | 1:59 pm

Film: Veera
Starring: Ravi Teja, Kajal Agarwal, Tapsee,Sridevi Vijayakumar, Prakash Raj, Pradeep Rawat, Roja, Brahmanandam, Rahul Dev
Director: Ramesh Varma
Producer: Ganesh Indukuri
Banner: Sanvi Productions PVT LTD
Music: Thaman S
Rating :2/5

Mass Maharaj Ravi Teja has reached the big screens this Friday with powerful mass entertainer Veera. Veera is prestigious project for Ravi Teja as it is the highest budget film so far in the Star’s career. Veera has Kajal Agarwal and Tapsee as the female leads. The duo earlier acted in Mr.Perfect and scored super hit. Will the duo prove lucky to Ravi Teja too with Veera? Will Ravi Teja’s biggest budget gain success? Read on…
Story:
The story takes off with a goon Rahul Dev planning to take revenge on ACP Shyam (Shyam) for arresting him. Deva (Raviteja) will be appointed for giving special security to Shyam’s family. Deva gets friendly with entire Shyam’s family except Shyam’s wife Satya (Sridevi). In the meantime, Ikee (Taapsee), a neighbor falls in love with Deva.However Deva dont respond to her love. Story takes a twist when Shyam gets to know that Deva is not appointed by Government officials? Who is Veera? What is his background and why does he comes to save Shyam’s family forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Ravi Teja gives an admiring performance and he always delivers his best as per his part is considered. However, his typical comic drama and humor quotient is missing in Veera as the movie is highly packed with mass fights. Otherwise, Ravi Teja makes his performance count.
Tapsee looked extremely hot and glamorous in the film. Not just with the looks, but she essayed her role with utmost confidence.
Kajal Agarwal delivers a flawless performance as Kabaddi Chitti.
Brahmanandam succeeds in providing some fun-filled moments and is the only relief in the first half of the film. Divya Vani, Shyam, Subba Raju, Pradeep Rawat gives a commendable performance while Ali, Supreet, Venu Madhav are okay in their regular roles.
Technical Analysis:
Music by Thaman stands out with most of them being entertaining numbers and he has comeup with an inspiring background score. Cinematography by Chota.K.Naidu is on top-class, especially the song picturisation locales keeps you glued to the screens. On the flip side, editing is the minus for the film that has many avoidable scenes. Screenplay is highly predictable and directorial skills of Ramesh Varma are mediocre. Director Ramesh Varma could have handled such complex subject tight script but the poor narration and execution made Veera weak.
Analysis:
Ravi Teja might have accepted Veera project as his character has dual shades and scope for performance. Such films need well-written script and good screenplay. But Veera utterly fails in both these aspects. Though the first half manages to have some fun-filled moments in the form of Ravi Teja and Brahmanandam also have some twists in the story that takes you by surprise, however it is the second half that makes you feel the torture. The second half of the film is highly predictable and there aren’t any interesting elements that keep you glued to the screens. At the box-office, Veera might find hard to get back its investment.
Final Verdict:
Veera is utterly boring and disappointing!!!

100% Love Movie Review first on web

Written By moveeland on Friday, 6 May 2011 | 9:34 am

Rating: 2.75/5.0
Banner: Geetha Arts
Producer(s): Bunny Vasu
Director: Sukumar
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Casting: Naga Chaitanya, Tamannah, Naresh, Tara Alisha, Naresh, Dharmavarapu Subhrahamanyam, K R Vijaya, M S Narayana, Rajesh etc

After 'Yem Maya Chesave', Naga Chaitanya is back with yet another youthful love story starring Tamannah in the lead. Director Sukumar who is known for variety youthful love stories wove his magic again in this love-jealous story.

Balu (Naga Chaitanya), number one student in collage. He is proud and egoistic in nature and can’t digest anyone greater than him. Maha Lakshmi (Tamannah) comes to city from village joins the same collage where Balu studies. Maha Lakshmi who is poor in studies works hard and tops Balu in collage to be loved by Balu who is her Bawa. On the other hand, Balu thinks her love as infatuation.

As the movie progresses, misunderstanding crops up and both chose their own paths and gets separated. Both wanted to show their supremacy decides to engage to different partners. Rest is how both realise their love for each other and unite.

Naga Chaitanya performance is OK in this movie. His performance in the collage scenes is good, but need to improve a lot in emotional scenes. Needs improvement in Dancing skills. His looks are good and costumes are apt.

Tamannah performed well as Maha Lakshmi. But, she too failed to give her best in emotional scenes. She looked gorgeous in traditional Langa Voni or Sarees. She is beautiful and sexy.

The guy who played Ajith role performed well. Tara Alisha who acted as Swapna is in very limited role. Naresh, Vijay Kumar, K R Vijaya justified their roles.

Dharmavarapu Subrahamanyam, Rajesh and MS Narayana acted well in humorous roles.

Director Sukumar always gives a unique characterisation to protagonist again comes up with an egoistic lover character. Sukumar started the movie well and weaved his magic till the interval without any hiccups. The movie is neat with entertaining screenplay till first half. Scenes involving kids, collage scenes and Balu, Tamannah outsmarting each other are entertaining.

However, Sukumar ran out of ideas in second half. Second half is quite an ordinary affair with predictable scenes and outcome at the end. Screenplay in second half is poor with many unwanted scenes. Movie lost its tempo and became lag.

Devi Sri Prasad composed music for the film .The tracks 'Kallu Kallu Plussu..' and 'A square B square..' are composed well. The lyrics for all the songs are well penned and make sense. Editing by Karthika Srinivas is good. Cinematography by Prasad is good. Used vibrant colors to show the love story. Screenplay should have better in Second Half.

100 % Love is a youthful entertainer which appeals to collage going students. First half is entertaining and second half is routine and boring. Sukumar stick to heroes characterisation bit long than required resulting in monotony between scenes. There are some illogic scenes to display his ideas. Number one student copying in exams is to simply display Sukumar ideas. Vijay Kumar and K R Vijaya story should have been scripted better.

Finally, 100 % Love is strictly for youth who loves romantic love stories. There are no entertaining elements to please masses. On the whole, it is an average film can be watched once if you have time.

Mr Perfect movie Review

Written By moveeland on Wednesday, 27 April 2011 | 6:41 am

Movie Review: Tollywood is in no mood to experiment these days, choosing to stick to safe, breezy love stories. And Dasarath's "Mr Perfect" is no different. Already adept at handling such subjects, his last film, "Santosham," being testimony, Dasarath has walked down the same old path in "Mr Perfect" too.

The story goes something like this. Vicky (Prabhas), an expert in gaming software, lives in Australia, never compromises in life. He hates "adjustments" and thinks that one shouldn't sacrifice one's comforts for others. He wants everything in his life to be perfect, even his life partner. His father asks him to get married to his childhood buddy, Priya (Kajal Agarwal), when he comes to India for his sister's marriage. He decides to spend time with Priya for 10 days before he makes his decision.

The two start off on the wrong foot, but inevitably, Priya falls in love with Vicky. When their ecstatic parents are about to announce their engagement, Vicky suddenly declares that he is not going to marry Priya as she decided to sacrifice all her personal preferences for him. He returns to Australia, only to meet Maggie (Taapsee), who he thinks is perfect for him. Meanwhile, a determined Priya follows him back to Australia, giving the story a not-so-new angle.

What is applause-worthy in the movie is Kajal Agarwal's performance. She looks great, expresses well and fits into the role perfectly. Prabhas manages to look nice, but really needs to work on his dialogue delivery. Their on-screen chemistry however, is commendable.

Prakash Raj, Murali Mohan and K Viswanath play the same predictable characters they are famous for. Taapsee is good in her short appearance. For once, her voice isn't dubbed and it isn't too bad as it suited her NRI character. Brahmanandam is wasted in comic capers that don't work.

The story is simple and clean, but for all its predictability, it's definitely not a paisa vasool film.

Performance
Pavan’s performance was stellar. He has acted well even in the different character of Arjun Palvai. Heroine Trisha was both beautiful and acted well. Sonu Sud and Paresh Raval have done justice to their characters. Ali has entertained well as a taxi driver.
Technical
Jayant P. Parjani has once again proved his talent as director. Screenplay and taking were good. Song filming was also good. Photography and Camera work was attractive.
Analysis

The film is a youthful entertainer. There is out and out enjoyment. Every one would like it. However, the message given in the film may give a wrong signal to the Indian society.

In the end, it was said in the film … ‘ Love is Faith…Faith is Life’ which means love is trust and trust is life. The message is okay, but traditionalists say that it was not good to make fun of marriage in the name of love.

2nd half: gets bit slow down..basthi dorasani song will be the main highlight of the flick .velayuddham : heavy dialouges. Hope few ppl won't mind them as those dialouges r excellent..

hindi version there was no melodrama involving deepika. But here we ve a melodrama n sum family sentiments which suits for telugu aud...

Common aud - if u ve watched LAK, u may feel little bit bored n can predict d next scene so easily. bUt if u havn't watched it,u may like it...

Review

Story

Mahadevarayalu (Prabhu) is the central home minister who has a task at hand. He hails from royalty and they are entrusted with the job of getting the Rudrashoolam from Jackie (Jackie Shroff) since a pooja should happen on a particular eclipse day.

However, Fakhtoom (Pooja), an evil queen from Egypt has also got her eyes on the same weapon as she wants to conquer the world and avenge the death of her husband (Sonu Sood).

On the other hand, Mahadevarayalu has got his daughter Iswarya (Ileana). She wants to live a free life without any security so she escapes to have a holiday with her friends (Ali and others).

She is targeted by the group of Fakhtoom but in comes Shakti (NTR) as Iswarya’s guide. He protects her from time to time. Jwalamukhi, a divine diamond also involves in protecting them. However, Shakti has got a flashback and a connection with the Rudrashoolam. What is that connection? Who gets to win in the end forms the rest of the story.

Artists Performance:

NTR Junior does his bit as required. Though he is lacking those high energy levels and powerful dialogue delivery, he carries off his role in a matured way. However, the etching of his warrior character was poor.

Ileana looks sexy and appeals in the songs. Though her costumes were not upto the mark, she contributes in the glamour department.

Sonu Sood was okay, though his role was very limited he manages to make his presence felt.

Pooja Bedi was artificial, Nasser looks powerful, Jackie Shroff ended up as a joker with his weak characterization, the actor who did the role of Raaka was brawny, Prabhu was okay, Ali was average, Brahmanandam came and went, Krishna Bhagawan brought few smiles, S P Balu was standard, Manjari was ok. The others didn’t have much to offer.

Highlights:

* Visual grandeur
* Art department
* Music and lyrics
* Background score
* Ileana’s glamour
* Production values

Disappointments:

* Weak content
* Poor screenplay
* Logical lapse in the backdrop
* Song picturization
* Editing hiccups
* Directorial flaws

Final Analysis:

A good film with high budgets requires a strong team of technicians and effective execution of the plot. Here, the concept of the Sakti Peethams was appealing but then it takes material to execute the plot in the right way and bring conviction.

The responsibility of the director is to bring depth and feel into such storylines. For instance, the flashback episode dates back only 27 years back which means 1984. How can one expect people to come from Egypt with horses, have sword-fights etc during that year.

Another place where the Sakti Peethams are portrayed through library shots, what was the director thinking of? Saving some money? Well, that looked poor. There are many scenes where dramatism and high voltage of emotions is required but that was missing completely.

Except for one or two scenes, there is not a single scene which strikes a chord. Cinematic liberties are accepted but the director must concentrate on getting the audience to connect with his story first. After that, even if he shows something illogical, the audience won’t mind it. But right from the first scene, things have been stale and lacked any emotion.

At the box office, the openings might be good due to the star power and the hype about the budget but apart from that, the film is sure to fizzle out due to weak content.

Banner: Visakha Talkies
Music: P M M Srilekha
Cinematography: Jaswant
Editing: Gautham Raju
Producers: Natti Kumar, T Rama Satyanarayana

Review

Story

Gowri Shankar (Jagapathi Babu) is a police inspector and he believes in doing settlements, taking commissions for his work and is corrupted. He is assisted by his constable Ranga Rao (Jeeva).

A case of acid attack on college students and the kidnapping of a girl and her killing brings some tension but things get complicated as the criminals in both cases are also killed. In comes CB-CID officer (Murali Sharma) to investigate the deaths and he is assisted by Gowri.

His investigations lead him to discover that Gowri is the killer. Why does Gowri kill them?

Why he decides to kill even the dreaded terrorist Hasab (Amit Dhawan)? All this forms the rest of the story.

Artists Performance:

Jagapathi Babu does his bit as required and it is a cakewalk for him. As such, there is nothing impact creating from him and he goes about doing his job mechanically.

Vimala Raman is there to add the glamour for the songs and indulge in some skin show. Though she doesn’t have that sort of body or curves to flaunt her sex appeal is quite natural.

Murali Sharma is a natural performer. He is a strong talent who deserves more chances. He does his bit effectively and has a strong screen presence.

Asha Saini looks sizzling and seductive, she has that oomph which can raise the heat. Jeeva was usual. Amit Dhawan was eccentric. Ravu Ramesh was consistent. The others didn’t have much to do.

Highlights:

* Last ten minutes
* Murali Sharma’s performance

Drawbacks:

* Weak direction
* Predictable storyline
* Low technical values
* No grip in any scene
* No comedy
* Dull romance

Final Analysis:

To start with, director PA Arun Prasad must be appreciated for involving the terrorist Ajmal Kasab in his film and the fact that our hero goes and kills him. Apart from that, the rest of the film has taken the lead from the acid attack cases on Praneetha (whose killers were encountered by police as wished in this film) and the boiler killing of the little girl Vyshnavi in Vijayawada.

Just like a director has his strokes in a film, PA Arun Kumar shows his strokes by creating some raunchy scenes and inferior comedy. Overall, the film’s attempt to convey a strong message is appreciable but the logic and the way the message was conveyed was not practical.

It is true that looking at the present day functioning of law and order, citizens tend to incline towards tribal law that states ‘an eye for an eye’ and a ‘life for a life’. But the consequences of that are to be studied. That is a very big debatable issue indeed.

At the box office, there is nothing that the film has to hold the audience so the chance of below average result is high

Review: Khaleja

Written By moveeland on Thursday, 7 October 2010 | 1:16 pm

Khaleja, Prince Mahesh Babu's Movie hit the screens after a long gap. Finally, the wait is over for fans and movie lovers as the movie released today all over world. Expectations on the movie skyrocketed because of Mahesh Babu and Trivikram Srinivas combination. The duo earlier delivered a super hit movie ‘Athadu’ almost 5 years back.

Story: ‘Pali’, a small village in North Andhra with a population of about 550 looks for ‘Devudu’ to help them and stop the deaths of the villagers. Village head (Rao Ramesh) sends Siddha( Shafiq) to search for a man who is 28 years old, born in ‘Pushyami Nakshatram’. Now we know for whom he is searching.

Raju (Mahesh Babu) a taxi driver in Hyderabad bumps in to Subhashini(Anushka), daughter of Durga Prasad ( Tanikella), a rich sugarcane producer in AP. GK (Prakash Raj) wants his son (Amith) to marry Subhashini to get benefit in the business.

Oneday Raju witnesses a gruesome murder of Dr. Paranjith a Geologist and his accompany Dilawar Singh. Raju taxi owner Dharmavarapu Subramaniam manages to get Rs 5 lak insurance money for Dilawar Singh and asks Raju to give to the parents of Dilawar Singh, a Rajasthan resident. GK (Prakash Raj) people follow Raju and try to kill him in Rajasthan. Our hero is victorious in the fight only after suffering life threatening wounds.

Who saves him? Siddha identifies ‘Devudu’ in Raju and take him to ‘Pali’. Why ‘Pali’ people see god in Raju? Does Raju really possesses powers like God? Why GK people trying to kill Raju? Will he save the village people from dying? Lot of questions, but one answer. Go and watch the movie.

Mahesh Babu action is highlight. There is nothing much in the first half. Real story starts just beofre the interval. Second half is good except speed breaking songs.

Overall, it is entertaining and definitely watchable movie.

Rating: 3.0/5.0
